How to set it up

First, you need to set up the hose between the airbrush and your preferred air source. Start by screwing the small hose directly onto the base of the airbrush. The other end of the hose should be attached to your preferred air source – either a compressor, like our Mini Air Compressor, or an Airbrush Propellent Can. To attach to an Airbrush Propellent Can, you will need to completely unscrew the metal plunger on the top of the can and then screw the adaptor tightly onto the can. The end of the hose can be screwed onto the adaptor, and as you screw down the plunger you will get a hissing sound as an initial release of pressure comes from the can. To attach to larger industrial compressors, you will need to use a thread adaptor.

To fill the airbrush, you take the top off the glass jar, fill it with your chosen liquid to just under the shoulder of the jar. Screw the top back on and clip onto the gun. You are now ready to spray.

How to use it

The next step is to adjust the spray pattern. You do this by adjusting the nib on the top of the lid. To achieve the optimum spray pattern, make sure the two nibs are at right angles to each other. Note that the nib on the gun should be fully tightened as far as it will go. It is always worth practising on a bit of paper before spraying directly onto the leather.

Hold the gun correctly for a smooth, even finish:

Always have the glass jar facing forward.

Hold the gun like you hold a pen, using your index finger as a trigger finger, to give you greater control whilst spraying.

If spraying a horizontal surface, make sure you hold the gun at a 45-degree angle.

Use the nozzle pin to clear any blockages, and when cleaning the product.

To clean, unclip the jar from the gun. Unscrew the lid of the jar and remove the syphon pipe and ring. Unscrew the nib so that it is removed completely. Then flush everything through with warm water and leave to dry.

FAQ - Airbrush

Q. Why is the Airbrush spitting and/or spraying intermittently?

A. This is likely to be happening because there is not enough product in the jar, so it is time to fill it up again. It might also be the syphon pipe which needs to be pointing in the opposite direction. If it is still spitting, there may be particles in the paint, and it will need to be filtered.

Q. What consistency should my paint be?

A. The perfect consistency should be in between milk and single cream. If it is too thick, and because Furniture Clinic colourants and finishes are water-based, you can thin it with up to 10% water.
